Thursday Update

I am sorry for the delay in getting you information on the blog, but I was hoping to have some more encouraging news for you.

Here is what we know at this point:

1. The left side of the heart is not functioning properly. They tried weaning her slightly off the heart and lung machine so that she would do more of the work and she wasn't ready for that.

2. They still have her in the "paralytic" state and want to keep her resting. They are turning her, and she has opened her eyes.

3. The EEG studies will be done later this afternoon which will show if there is any brain concerns or if a seizure might have been the cause of the attack she had on Tuesday.

4. The two options at this point unless God intervenes and heals her would be for additional open heart surgery or a heart transplant. They have not ruled out the heart transplant which was already an option if they did not do the surgery and allow things to run its course.

Obviously both options weigh heavy on every one's hearts and minds. So how can you pray:

1. Pray for continued wisdom for the doctors and nurses.

2. Pray that if she will need the transplant that God will provide a heart as quickly as possible. The nurses have indicated that paperwork might already be in process just in case.

3. Pray for peace for Laura and Jon. As each day drags on the waiting gets harder and every one's patience tends to wane.

4. Praise the Lord that the Devon House opened up for housing from Friday night until the 30th. That will take much pressure off everyone.

5. Praise the Lord for the thousands who are praying! It is amazing to hear reports of friends everywhere who are lifting the Groen and Welte families up before the throne of grace.

Again, please be sure and leave a comment on the blog even if it is just a sentence. It is an encouragement. We love you all.

If you'd like to send a card to Lindsay, you can send it to her c/o:

It is amazing how this little one has won the attention of Christians around the world. I think this is what is meant by "the Fellowship of Suffering."
I can't tell you how many times I have checked the blog while Glen is driving down the road just to see if there might be an update. Each day I have friends who write to me because they have read the blog and are praying for Lindsay and all of you. They haven't even met you, but they're praying anyway. We are now in Oklahoma and plan to be in Kansas by Saturday.

Laura, I read Stephanie's comments today and she is right on. We all know you would do anything you could for this precious little one. I have learned through experience that it is the tendency of mothers to feel guilt when anything happens to their child, and Satan would just love to amplify that thought of guilt. If you ever want to talk, your dad has my phone number, and I would be honored to talk with you and preferably listen any time. As you know, I have lots of experience in that area.

In Him,

Marilyn, for Glen, too.

Laura, Jon and family,
We are continually praying for you and the extended family and having others do so as well in other communities. We pray that God will give you all the strength and comfort that you need. Bill, I just wanted to thank you for the information that you continually give. I know it must be a HUGE relief for Jon and Laura not to have to answer calls and to repeat the info over and over. You are a blessing as well as all of you who are helping and staying with them. Thank you for all you are doing for such a wonderful family. Love, Dienne, Keith and Colby Howard

Jon & Laura,

I have sent your plea for prayer to Norh Carolina...Greg's father and mother are now prayer worriars for Lindsay as well.

Marilyn is right...not only has Lindsay won the attention of many she has also won their hearts. I thought about all that are being touched by Lindsay all that are feeling the love of our savior through your little gril. There must be so many lives in the process of change...I know Jesus has already begun changing my heart and the heart of my husband. I'm not sure if this is encourageing to you or not, but believe me when I say lives will forever be transformed through your pretty little girl.

We will continue to be in prayer, thank you Mr. Welte for your posts...you are a wonderful father to Laura and a blessing indeed.

Do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand...For I a the LORD, you God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

Isaiah 41:10,13

With all of my love,
Carrie

We are traveling down tomorrow with some friends and Steve (the very tall kid) who is looking forward to coloring and playing with Tanner if he should be there. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you have peace to help you sleep and strength to get you through the long days. God's blessings be upon all of you. Love,
The Randolphs

We know that God is watching over your precious little girl. Words are small comfort, but the strong arms of Christ are there to lift you up. I'm not sure that the words of the hymn "Love Lifted Me" are meant for this particular application, but the chorus came to mind.
Love lifted me, love lifted me
When nothing else could help,
Love lifted me.
We pray that His love will sustain you in this extremely difficult time in your lives.

Dear Families,
We are praying for you. There are no words to express our love for your little family. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ and are covering you in prayer. I just sent your blog to my brother and sister in Brazil, so today people will be praying for your family in Portuguese. How cool is that! Here is a song for you-copy it to your browser. Hope it gives you some comfort and reminds you of the hope we have in Christ.

I am so glad to hear that you will have housing for awhile so you don't have to be concerned with those types of distractions.

We continue to pray for dear Lindsay- for her heart to heal, for rest, and for those that care for her. We're praying for all of you too- may strength replace the weariness and peace and comfort fill your spirits.

We know not what the next days will bring- but we do know that God is our refuge and strength- a very present help in trouble. (Psalms 46:1)

We love you and are praying for you all-

Love,
Aunt Sharon, Uncle Matt, Kelsey and Jared

Dear Jon and Laura,

How our hearts ache for you at this time. God gives us strength to carry on through such times when we can not possibly comprehend how to take another breath much less trudge on through difficult decisions and hard moments. We've shared your prayer needs with our church family at Lovell Bible since we learned of Lindsay's murmur and we continue to pray for peace, strength, stamina, and healing. Laura, we're praying especially for you as it seems you've gotten hit with a massive load of burdens. We are following your journey on the blog and thinking of you and praying for you many times a day.

Jon and Laura,

You might not remember us, but we have taken care of Lindsay in the DBC nursery, and fell in love with her! What a beautiful and sweet child! We were so saddened to learn about the surgery, the complications, and your miscarriage as well. May God be your refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble... Ps. 46:10

Lindsay and all of you are in our prayers. I have asked everyone in my address book to pray for her as well. The people are from: NH, Wisconsin, Vermont, NY, and Maine. The Lindsay prayer chain is growing!

Lindsay, ever since we heard about your illness, you and your family have constantly been in our thoughts and prayers. We live quite far away from you, but to God that doesn't matter at all. We hope to hear good news about your recovery real soon. Our love to you all,
Walter and Shirley Gorny
